The Vaults Are Almost Empty
The situation with water resources in Catalonia is becoming increasingly tense. Now the water level in reservoirs is only 18.17%, which is a critical indicator.
Key Resources Are At Risk
There are 19 reservoirs in Catalonia, of which 9 are in the internal catchment basins, and 10 are on the Ebro River. They provide water for households, industry and agriculture. For example, the Sant Antoni reservoir is capable of storing up to 205 million cubic meters of water.
Prolonged Drought Worsens The Situation
The drought, which began in the autumn of 2020, has become one of the longest in the history of Catalonia. Lack of precipitation and high temperatures exacerbate the situation, affecting ecosystems, the economy and people's daily lives.
In order to inform the public and plan the use of water, the Catalan Water Resources Agency publishes updated information on a daily basis. This is important for developing strategies for adaptation to climate change.
