The idea is to decongest an area where the Palace of Justice, the Civil Guard barracks and a commercial area converge and take the station, privately owned, out of the center

The assessed land occupies 2,253 square meters, which only covers 67% of the block that contemplates the punctual modification of the General Plan that endorses the change of use to a green area

Details of the Construction Plan

4,588,207 euros. That's what the 2,253 square meters that Torrevieja's private bus terminal now occupies cost. The City Council has assessed the land to acquire it and create a green area. The valuation is part of the punctual modification 110 of the General Urban Planning Plan of Torrevieja that intends to convert, with a change of the current qualification as a private parking and its use as a private bus station, in a green area.

The Local government board has approved this Friday the consolidated valuation report of the plot in which the current bus station of Torrevieja is located, made by the mercantile Valuation Technicians. The plot is delimited by the streets Antonio Machado, Patricio Zammit, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez and Calle del Mar.

Density and lack of recreational areas

The idea of the municipal government is to have a recreational space in an area of the urban area with a high density of people and traffic due to the proximity of public facilities as stated in the documentation of the modification of the General Plan. Next to the terminal is the Palace of Justice that serves the municipalities of the coast of the region, the main barracks of the Civil Guard in the Vega Baja, a municipal multipurpose building (formerly known as the new Museum of Holy Week), the municipal archive, the Local Development Agency and one of the main Mercadona stores in Spain. The neighborhood of Colonia San Esteban, they also add, has a high density of buildings "which makes it necessary to increase the green spaces adjacent to the axis that makes up the Avenida de las Habaneras-Antonio Machado," the proposal says.

Since May 2022

The government team promoted this procedure in the middle of the previous mandate - in May 2022. The need to process the modification by the City Council is motivated by the future demolition of the Bus Station, privately owned and managed, and the construction of another of a new plant and public ownership planned next to the CV-905 in front of the Habaneras and Ozone shopping area.

Still far away

The park project has a long way to go to become a reality. Firstly, to have the investment to acquire the land. Carry out the appraisal of the remaining 33% of the surface and that the owners agree on the price. To advance in the construction of the new public station and finally to project and tender the works of the park.
