Alicante Airport Record 1.59 Million Passengers in April

It seems the only way is up for the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández following yet another record-breaking month. In April, a staggering 1,590,828 passengers travelled through the aerodrome, the largest number of all time and 10.8% more than the same month last year. And things are only going to get busier with the summer season fast approaching.

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Anticipates 7 Million Seats for Summer 2024

The current forecasts expect 37,963 flights to operate at Alicante between April 1 and October 31, meaning there will be almost 7 million seats on offer. If this comes to fruition, it would represent an increase of 13.3% compared to the 2023 figures. April’s figures mean that Alicante was the fifth busiest airport in Spain last month, behind Málaga (2,162,308 travellers).

British Passengers Lead the Way in Record Month for Alicante Airport

In terms of international traffic, the UK is holding firmly to the top spot in Alicante.

Throughout April, 552,320 British passengers used the airport, followed by the Netherlands, with 102,913; Belgium, with 81,690; Germany, with 81,538; and Norway, with 71,056. During the first four months of 2024, Alicante Airport has welcomed a total of 4,819,105 passengers, which translates into a growth of 18.5% compared to the same period last year. If the demand remains this high, Alicante could be looking at beating 2023’s record of 15.9 million passengers.
