Tesla's opponents have begun storming the factory premises in Germany
In the community of Grunheide, near Berlin, more than 1.2 thousand left-wing radicals gathered to protest against the expansion of the plant of the American electric car manufacturer Tesla. On Friday, May 9, demonstrators began attempts to storm factory premises, causing concern and an active police response.
Struggle for penetration
The protesters are trying to break through police barriers, trying to enter the premises of the plant. Several violent clashes have already occurred between activists and law enforcement forces. Left-wing radical groups plan to break into a 300-hectare fenced area where the manufacturer's electric vehicles are parked.
Police fear further sabotage, as the protesters are supported by the Vulkan group, responsible for setting fire to a transformer booth near the plant in March. The activists are determined to continue the assault attempts by setting up a camp with tents near the plant.
The environmental protest is in full swing
Earlier in April, German activists occupying treehouses in protest against the expansion of the Tesla plant in Grunheide fortified their camp. Environmental actions, including the shutdown of the plant from electricity after the explosion in early March, continue, fueling tensions in the region.
The reaction of the authorities and society
In March, the plant was completely disconnected from the power grid after an explosion attributed to environmental activists. Tesla representatives called it an act of ecoterrorism. In response, the German Chancellor stated the need to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the enterprise.
