Spanish law enforcement agencies conducted an operation to eliminate the country's largest workshop for the production of counterfeit coins.

The National Police reported that the main product produced in this underground workshop were €2 coins. The workshop was located in a warehouse in the province of Toledo, and it became the largest such object discovered in Europe over the past 10 years.

According to the police, the criminal group involved in the manufacture of counterfeit coins consisted of people of Chinese origin. Counterfeiters managed to introduce about 100 thousand counterfeit coins in Spain and about 400 thousand in other European countries.

The investigation began back in 2018, and in six years, ten people from China were arrested in Spain as part of this case.

The operation to eliminate the workshop was carried out in cooperation and coordination with the European Police Agency (Europol).
