Hundreds and hundreds of flamingos are already in full breeding season in the natural park of Las Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja.

They do it for the fifth consecutive year in the Torrevieja lagoon, although they are also seen feeding in other lagoons and wetlands around. It is very important that they are not disturbed and that, if we want to observe them, we do so without approaching them either personally or with means such as drones, since we could put this nesting at risk.

Las Lagunas Natural Park

The salt flats are located in an impressive natural park: the 'Natural Park of the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja’, which is a protected nature reserve.

The area is also a paradise for birdwatchers, as it is home to more than a hundred different species, including flamingos.

This area is a paradise for cyclists and walkers, as it offers several trails to discover a unique ecosystem. There are some very special plants around the lagoon, because they are typical of very saline soils, so these plants form a priority habitat for the European Union.
