1. Walk along the Explanada de España promenade
A walk along the famous Explanada de España promenade is a must for all visitors to the city. It’s paved with more than 6 million marble tiles that create a wave-like pattern. It’s especially pleasant here in April: warm, palm trees are blooming, street music is playing, cafes and souvenir shops are open. A great place for a leisurely break, ice cream or coffee in the open air.
2. Climb the Santa Barbara Castle
At the top of Mount Benacantil stands the Santa Barbara Castle, the symbol of Alicante. In spring, you can climb up there on foot or use the elevator built right into the rock. The fortress walls offer breathtaking views of the city and the sea. In April, historical reconstructions, music festivals and open-air exhibitions often take place here.
3. Beaches and the first swims
Although April is not yet the height of the beach season, the water in the Mediterranean is gradually starting to warm up. For those who are hardy, this is a great chance to open the swimming season. The most popular beaches are Postiguet and San Juan. Even if the water seems cool, sunbathing in the warm sun is a pleasure.
4. Holidays and festivals
April in Alicante is also a time of holidays:
- Semana Santa (Holy Week): Easter processions take place throughout the city. Thousands of people in traditional costumes carry figures of saints through the streets to the sound of drums. In 2025, Easter falls on April 20, so the end of the month will be especially eventful.
- Mediterranean Tapas Festival: The end of April is a great time for a gastronomic immersion. In the city center, restaurants and bars offer mini portions of traditional dishes at special prices.
5. Visit Tabarca Island
From the port of Alicante, in just 30-40 minutes by boat, you can reach Tabarca Island, the first marine reserve in Spain. In April, cafes are already open and you can enjoy strolls along the cozy streets of the old town, explore the remains of fortifications and snorkel off the coast.
6. Explore museums
Alicante offers interesting museums for every taste:
- MARQ Archaeological Museum - recognized as one of the best in Europe. An exhibition dedicated to Ancient Egypt is planned for spring 2025.
- MACA Museum of Contemporary Art is a great place for lovers of Picasso, Dali and Miro.
- Valor Chocolate Museum in the nearby town of Villajoyosa is a sweet stop for the whole family.
7. Visit El Palmeral Park
Alicante's parks are especially beautiful in the spring. El Palmeral is an oasis of palm trees, waterfalls and lakes. Here you can rent a bike, have a picnic or just lie on the grass. In April, many trees bloom, creating colorful panoramas for photos.
8. Wine tours and tastings
The province of Alicante is famous for its wines, especially the Monastrell variety. In April, the wineries actively welcome tourists: you can go on a tour, see the production process and try local wines paired with jamon and cheeses.
9. Go on an excursion to Guadalest
The small village of Guadalest is one of the most beautiful places in the province. It is located in a picturesque mountain valley an hour's drive from Alicante. The castle on the rock, old houses, viewing platforms and a turquoise reservoir create an almost fairytale atmosphere. It is especially pleasant here in April: flowering trees and clear air make the walk unforgettable.
10. Take a gastronomic tour
In spring, local markets and restaurants offer a lot of seasonal dishes:
- Grilled artichokes
- Fish dishes (especially tuna and sardines)
- Paella Alicantina - a local version of the famous paella, often with seafood
- Turron ice cream - a classic local dessert
At the central market Mercat Central, you can find the best products of the region and even take part in gastronomic tours with tasting.
