Aldi's Plan to Combat Rising Grocery Costs in Spain

Grocery costs are climbing to unprecedented levels, affecting staple items like olive oil, bread, milk, and fresh produce. Aldi, a popular German supermarket chain, is stepping in to help Spanish households by lowering prices on over 400 products.

Significant Discounts and Price Reductions

In the first four months of 2024, Aldi implemented permanent discounts of up to 23% on various products, assisting loyal customers in cutting their shopping expenses. Since then, the chain has reaffirmed its commitment to continuously reviewing prices and reducing costs wherever possible.

Focus on Spanish Products and Own Brands

Aldi's strategy centers on its own brand products and items sourced from Spain. This focus allows the chain to estimate customer savings of nearly 105 euros through its latest pricing initiative. Currently, 8 out of 10 products on Aldi's shelves are from Spain, while 9 out of 10 items are store-brand products. A recent Kantar Worldpanel study indicated that customers who fill their carts exclusively with Aldi's white label products could save up to 696.62 euros annually.

Supporting National Producers

Aldi ensures these savings by maintaining strong relationships with local producers, building long-term partnerships based on trust to balance supply and demand. This approach has enabled the supermarket to remain a dependable source of savings for Spanish families and contribute to containing overall price increases in the grocery sector.

Recognizing the financial strain on families caused by escalating food prices, Aldi continues to focus on customer satisfaction and loyalty by keeping rates competitive. This commitment to affordable pricing reflects Aldi's ongoing efforts to ease the burden on customers struggling with high grocery costs.

Aldi's Consistent Price Advantage Over Competitors

Additional data from Kantar Worldpanel highlight Aldi's distinct edge over competitors. The chain maintained lower prices than its rivals across a consistent range of products over the last two years. Compared to the Spanish market average, Aldi's fixed product catalog ended 2023 at a full 12% below competing retailers, demonstrating the brand's commitment to affordability.
